Our Story

Pastor P. Ratnam and his wife, Suneetha, are the founders of Mission for the Rural People – India.

Pastor Ratnam was raised in a poor village where life was filled with hardship. Many days, there was not enough food, and survival was a daily struggle. As a young boy, he walked over 16 kilometers to the market to sell produce, earning very little to support his family.

During those journeys, he witnessed something that would change his life forever, street children begging for survival, often beaten and rejected. Their pain deeply impacted his heart, and even as a child, he made a decision:

One day, he would do something to help them.

Our Mission

Our mission is to share the love of Jesus Christ in practical and life-changing ways.

We are committed to caring for children, feeding the hungry, educating the next generation, and reaching the most forgotten communities in rural India. Through every act of service, we aim to bring hope, restore dignity, and transform lives — both physically and spiritually.

Faith in the Early Days

The early days of the orphanage were filled with struggle and uncertainty.

There were only three children, and at times, five people survived on just a small portion of food. Many days, they did not know how they would continue. But they held on to one thing — faith.

They prayed, trusting God to provide.

One day, a woman who had suffered from severe knee pain for years came for prayer. After praying, she returned the next day completely healed. From that moment on, she began supporting the orphanage monthly.

This was the first miracle — and a sign that God was with them.

The group includes men and women sitting or standing with hands clasped, and a young girl dressed in traditional Indian attire.

A Miracle Connection

In 2002, Suneetha reached out to someone who had once sponsored her as a child — Liz Dew from England.

With no address, she simply wrote “Liz Dew, Lake District, England” on the envelope, not expecting a reply.

Miraculously, the letter reached her.

Although there were mistakes in communication, somehow the message found its way back to Pastor Ratnam and Suneetha. This led to a connection with churches in the UK, who began supporting and sponsoring children.

Today, that support continues to sustain the mission.

This was their second great miracle.

Our Motivation

The love of Christ is the foundation of everything we do.

It is His love that compels us to serve, to give, and to continue even in the face of difficulty.

We believe that every life matters, and through Christ, every life can be transformed.

Expanding the Mission

Over the years, the mission has grown beyond what we could have imagined.

Through the help of volunteers from around the world, we have built wells, constructed dormitories, organized medical camps, and begun care for the elderly.

Hundreds of people have received medical care, children have found homes, and communities have experienced hope.

These moments remind us that this work is not ours alone — it is God’s work.

The need is still great.

Many children remain without homes, many elderly are abandoned, and access to clean water and healthcare is still limited.

Our vision is to continue expanding — providing more safe homes for children, care for the elderly, and essential resources for rural communities.

We believe this mission has only just begun.
